HOW
TO JOIN
If you have never rowed before, come down to the Club at any of
the above times, and ask for the Captain or one of the Vice Captains,
who will assign you to a Coach who will enrol you on the Basic
Watermanship Course. You will be asked to complete a simple questionnaire,
and the cost is £50 (non refundable). This entitles you to 10
hours of tuition by a qualified instructor who will teach you
the basic rowing technique. If, at the end of the course, you
decide to join the Club, the £50 will be deducted from your first
year’s subscription, and we will do our best to fit you into an
appropriate squad.
If you have rowed before, you will be asked to complete an Application
Form, and to pay £15 (non refundable). This small charge, which
will be deducted from your first year’s subscription) is made
to cover administration expenses. For insurance liability reasons
we need a completed form for anyone who uses any of the Club equipment.
New members are not allowed to use Club equipment unsupervised.
You must be able to swim 100 metres in rowing kit, and be in good
health, and if under 18 you must have parental/guardian’s consent
before you will be allowed to start.
About
the club
At
present, we have an active membership of about 120 oarspersons
from Juniors to Veterans. There are about 200 other members who
support the Club as recreational members, Patrons, and Friends.
As well as rowing, we have a full calendar of social events such
as parties, barbecues, dinners, etc.
The
Club has a group of Coaches who, under the direction of the Captain,
teach new members how to row, form crews, and train them for competition.
How far you go is up to you.
Worcester Rowing Club is run by the members for the members on
a voluntary basis, unlike a sports centre where you "pay,
play, and go", and where staff are employed to do the work.
If
you decide to become a member, you will be expected to assist
the Captain and Committee when help is required, and to give your
support to the above mentioned social events upon which the Club
depends for much of its income.
We
look forward to welcoming you into the Club.
